ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Sierra! Welcome and thanks for perusing my portfolio. Here you'll find examples of my GIS work from my current position at the University of Pittsburgh, past (and ongoing pro bono) research on wildfires, GIS coursework, and other research projects and positions I've previously held.

I'm currently working as a Data Scientist and GIS point of contact at the University of Pittsburgh. Most days you can find me coding in R and wrangling  data. Before starting at U Pitt, I graduated with my Master's degree in Environmental Health Sciences at UCLA, where I also completed a Global Health Certificate and built a GIS emphasis in my coursework. I'm passionate about climate science and harnessing spatial data to inform sustainable environmental decision making! I'm grateful to have found GIS, and I hope my enthusiasm for spatial data comes across in the examples of my work included here.

My current work is focused on combating opioid overdoses, and while I love the mission-based approach of my unit, I hope to transition back into the climate or environment sectors in the near future. As I'm currently applying to new positions, feel free to reach out if you think my skillset could be a good match for your organization.

P.S. In case you're wondering, the beautiful images on this site's page headers are visualizations of emissions and other attributes for burned areas from select 2018 wildfires in California.
